It's now time to thank Senator Lugar for his years of service and throw all our support behind Richard Mourdock.
Richard Mourdock is a principled, conservative leader who has shown tremendous courage under fire. As State Treasurer, he led the fight against the Chrysler bailout and as a Senate candidate he has boldly stood up against congressional earmarks.
A year ago political pundits said Richard Mourdock couldn't win this race. They said he couldn't build the support needed to overcome the establishment machine. They were wrong.
Because of the support of thousands of freedom-loving Americans in Indiana and across the nation, Richard Mourdock overcame the attacks and gave voters the opportunity to elect someone who will fight for conservative principles in the U.S. Senate.
Many of you have already donated money to Richard Mourdock's campaign, but he needs our support now more than ever.
Mourdock is virtually defenseless after spending everything he had to win the primary election. The Democrats are going to come at him very hard in the next few weeks and work to brand him as an extremist. We need to act quickly to replenish Mourdock's war chest so he can get the truth out about his record and vision for the future of this country.
Here's the truth. It's not extreme to insist on a balanced budget. It's not extreme to oppose government bailouts that pick winners and losers and force taxpayers to pay for corporate mistakes. And it's not extreme to insist on an energy policy that allows American consumers to access the most efficient and affordable sources of energy.
Richard Mourdock can win this race but only if we help him.
We can't depend on the Washington establishment to fight for him. Given a choice between supporting a moderate candidate in one state and a conservative candidate like Mourdock in another, the establishment will put its money behind the moderate. They know liberal Republicans won't stop business as usual in Washington and don't have the courage to stand up to the leaders in their own party.
