Obamacare Republicans
When the Supreme Court announced its decision to uphold Obamacare, it was a blow to conservatives like you and me who know the bill is unconstitutional at its very core. But, it was a real punch in the gut when we learned that Chief Justice
John Roberts, widely believed to be a strict constitutionalist, sided with the liberals to uphold the biggest government overreach of our generation.
According to a new report by
CBS News, Roberts apparently buckled under pressure and changed his vote shortly before the Court released its ruling. Once again, someone who portrayed himself as a conservative caved to liberal pressure when conservatives needed him the most.
In an editorial published yesterday, the
Wall Street Journal said, "His ruling, with its multiple contradictions and inconsistencies, reads as if it were written by someone affronted by the government's core constitutional claims but who wanted to uphold the law anyway to avoid political blowback and thus found a pretext for doing so in the taxing power."
This unfortunate betrayal of the principles we hold most dear underscores our goal of electing conservative leaders to the United States Senate.
Convictions matter. But, without the courage to carry out those convictions, convictions dont matter much at all. There is no point of having a so-called conservative Supreme Court Chief Justice if he votes with the liberals. It doesn't matter what Republicans say; what matters is how they vote.
Remember how we got here.
Arlen Specter — a liberal Republican — was the deciding vote to pass Obamacare after switching parties. Then Justice Roberts had the opportunity to strike down this unconstitutional attack on our freedoms, but in the final hour couldn't do it.
Arlen Specter and Justice Roberts are Obamacare Republicans who will be forever known for going wobbly when Americans needed them to stand strong. There are more Obamacare Republicans, but we have the chance to stop them before they can do any more damage.
Former Wisconsin Governor and current U.S. Senate candidate
Tommy Thompson, for example, supported Obamacare back in 2009 when it was being debated in Congress. President Obama even
praised Thompson for lending him support. Today, Thompson is telling voters that Obamacare must be repealed.
But Obamacare should have never passed in the first place. If Thompson was in the Senate when it came to a vote he, like Arlen Specter, would have voted for it. Thompson certainly cant be trusted to fight for full repeal now.
Thats exactly why we support
Mark Neumann in the Wisconsin Senate race. He's a proven fighter. He has a record that shows mettle under fire. In fact, he was kicked off the House Appropriations Committee back in the 1990s for daring to vote against a GOP appropriations bill.
The Washington establishment will always tell conservatives that they should be happy to elect anyone willing to call themselves a Republican. They say the more Republicans we have, the better off we will be.
We know thats not true. It doesnt matter what you call yourself. What matters is what you do.So as we celebrate our nation's independence tomorrow, let's thank God for those who pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor so we could be free. And let's also remember that their courage is what our country needs most today.
