SCF Won't Endorse Capito in WV
Alexandria, VA — The Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) announced Monday that it will not endorse U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) for U.S. Senate in 2014.

"Congresswoman Capito is not someone we can endorse because her spending record in the House is too liberal," said SCF Executive Director Matt Hoskins. "If Republicans in West Virginia want to save their country, they need to find another candidate with the courage say 'no' to more spending and debt."

U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito has a pro-government, pro-Washington voting record. In fact, Heritage Action for America gave her a dismal 48% conservative score. Just last year, Capito voted for the $1 trillion, budget-busting omnibus spending bill as well as a $2.4 trillion increase in the debt ceiling. Capito has a long history of supporting wasteful earmark spending, union wage mandates, and taxpayer funding for abortion.

"There's no question that Congresswoman Capito is well-known in the state and is favored by the Washington establishment," added Hoskins. "They know she won't rock the boat when it comes to cutting deals with Democrats to spend money we don't have. If the grassroots in West Virginia recruit a strong, viable challenger, SCF will seriously consider supporting them."

Voters in the Mountain State will send a strong conservative leader to the Senate if they're given a choice. West Virginia overwhelmingly rejected President Obama this year, voting 62.3% for Mitt Romney. If Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) retires, as many expect, Republicans will have a strong chance of picking up the seat in 2014. It will be even more important that they nominate the strongest, most principled voice they can.

The Senate Conservatives Fund is a multi-candidate political action committee (not a super PAC) that raises small dollar donations for principled candidates for U.S. Senate. In 2010, SCF helped elect Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Ron Johnson (R-WI). In 2012, SCF scored all three GOP challenger victories by helping elect Ted Cruz (R-TX), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), and Deb Fischer (R-NE).

According to the fiscally conservative Club for Growth, U.S. Rep. Shelly Moore Capito's anti-growth record includes:

Republicans can do better. Republicans must do better.
