DeMint Statement on Kentucky Senate Race
Alexandria, VA — Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), chairman of the Senate Conservatives Fund, made the following statement regarding the Republican nomination of Dr. Rand Paul for U.S. Senate in Kentucky. Dr. Paul overcame an opponent who was recruited, endorsed, and funded by the Washington establishment.
"I want to congratulate Rand Paul on this important victory tonight," said Senator DeMint. "His message of less spending and less debt is resonating with voters across Kentucky. He's building a winning coalition of conservatives, independents, and frustrated Democrats who believe in limited government, a strong national defense, and traditional values.
"The Washington establishment threw everything they had at him and yet he prevailed. Rand's victory is part of an American awakening that is taking place across the country as people embrace the principles of freedom that are the backbone of our country. It shows that Americans want strong leaders who will stand up to the massive spending, bailouts, and debt in Washington that are bankrupting our country."
The Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF) is a political action committee dedicated to electing strong conservatives to the U.S. Senate. SCF backs underdog candidates who are often overlooked and sometimes opposed by the Washington establishment. In addition to Rand Paul in Kentucky, SCF has endorsed Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Marco Rubio in Florida, Chuck DeVore in California, Ken Buck in Colorado, and Mike Lee in Utah.
