Incumbent Republican Mitch McConnell is up for re-election. McConnell is being challenged by conservative Matt Bevin in the Republican primary. Kentucky is a red state so the winner of the GOP primary will likely win the seat. However, McConnell isn't popular in Kentucky so he could be the one Republican who could lose to a Democrat and cost the GOP the majority in the Senate.
Note: SCF will not endorse Mitch McConnell because we have a policy against endorsing incumbents. SCF seeks to identify and elect new leaders to the U.S. Senate.
