Stop Sanctuary Cities

Thursday, April 27, 2017

This week, Judge William Orrick of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued a preliminary injunction to stop President Trump’s executive order cutting off funds to sanctuary cities.

While the judgment was issued on behalf of the city of San Francisco and Santa Clara County, Judge Orrick – a donor to former President Barack Obama – applied his ruling nationwide.

If there were ever an example of judicial activism, this is it.

If the ruling is appealed, it will go to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, which is the most liberal and most activist of all of the circuit courts. I don’t have to tell you what the 9th Circuit will do.

It’s time for Republicans in Congress to defend the rule of law by defunding sanctuary cities by statute.

If Democrats want to shut down the government to fund sanctuary cities, Republicans should welcome the debate. Americans side with Republicans on this issue and any Democrat who defends sanctuary cities will pay a heavy political price.

For years, Republicans have claimed that they needed the bully pulpit of the White House to win spending fights, and now they have it.

Please join us in this fight by sending a letter to your congressman and senators urging them to stop funding for sanctuary cities.

We’ve written a draft message for you that you can send to all three officials with just a few clicks. It’s easy!

Earlier this week, we surveyed our members on this question and defunding sanctuary cities was the top budget priority among those that we tested. This issue is very important to millions of Americans and now is not the time to surrender.

Please contact your representatives today.

We can’t allow liberal judges to ignore the rule of law and legislate from the bench. Republicans must use their power of the purse to enforce our laws, stop illegal immigration, and protect Americans.
