Obamacare Debate Moves to the Senate

Friday, May 5, 2017

Yesterday, the House passed a modified version of the RyanCare legislation by a vote of 217 to 213.

The House Freedom Caucus succeeded in improving the legislation by allowing states to opt-out of some of the worst coverage mandates in Obamacare, and they should be commended for their efforts.

But many states will not seek the mandate waivers offered in the bill and millions of Americans will continue to pay sky-high premiums that have been artificially inflated by the federal government.

That’s why it is so important for this legislation to keep improving before it is signed into law.

This debate now moves to the Senate where, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), a new bill will be written.

It will be a major test for McConnell to see if he keeps his promise to repeal Obamacare “root and branch.”

As you may recall, McConnell used Obamacare as a central campaign issue to win re-election and often gave speeches standing next to a towering copy of the law to emphasize his point.

Now is his chance to deliver and we hope you will help us hold him and other Republican senators accountable on this critical issue.

Please contact your senators and urge them to repeal Obamacare “root and branch” so premiums fall and Americans can regain control of their health care decisions.

Thank you for making your voice heard.
