Obama's Reckless Refugee Policy

Wednesday, November 18, 2015

In light of the evil attacks in Paris last week where one of the terrorists entered Europe as a Syrian refugee, it’s become abundantly clear that we must stop admitting Syrian refugees who are a risk for Islamic terrorism.

Unfortunately, President Obama says he plans to continue this policy, which will put the lives of Americans at risk.

This is yet another test for the new Republican Congress, which has the power to defund this and other reckless policies when it considers legislation to fund the government before the December 11 deadline when the current “continuing resolution” funding expires.

Republicans must be willing to fight the president on this even though he could shut the government down to stop them.

They also must resist the urge to pass a separate refugee bill that is guaranteed to be vetoed or a toothless ban on refugee funding with conditions that can easily be waived by the president. This president cannot be trusted to police himself.

Instead, Republicans should either completely block all funding for these high-risk refugees or prevent funding until Congress separately certifies the administration’s vetting process for refugees.

This is one of the reasons why Americans sent more Republicans to Washington last year. The president is incapable of handling this issue and it’s up to Congress to protect the American people.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) needs to reject the strategy of surrender and use the power of the purse to address this and other problems facing our country. He should also move to defund Planned Parenthood, the Iran nuclear deal, executive amnesty, and Obamacare.

Republicans promised to stop the president’s liberal agenda when they were campaigning last year and now they need to keep their promises!

BUILD A CONSERVATIVE SENATE

A number of Senate conservatives are fighting for our principles now, but they need reinforcements who are willing to stand up to the spineless leaders in their own party like Mitch McConnell.

Even if Americans elect a conservative president next year, we won’t win the policy fights needed to save our country without a conservative Senate – something we don’t have today.

Please make a contribution to the Senate Conservatives Fund to support our efforts to elect principled leaders to the Senate next year.

Also, please make contributions to our three endorsed Senate candidates –Mike Lee (R-UT), Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and Marlin Stutzman (R-IN). You can donate to all of them with one, simple online transaction and they will receive 100% of the funds you designate for their campaigns.

Thank you for standing strong for freedom. With your support, we will change the Senate and secure America’s future.

Sincerely,
Ken Cuccinelli II
