Omnibus Failure
Tuesday, December 29, 2015The Senate’s passage of the 2,000-page, $1.1 trillion omnibus bill before Christmas was yet another failure of Republican leadership.
The bill fully funded Planned Parenthood, the president’s unlawful executive amnesty program, the relocation program for Syrian refugees, and Obamacare, which is hurting millions of American families.
Yet again, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) proved that the new majority is no different than the old one. He is so determined to show that he can “govern” that he will do whatever the Democrats want in order to pass as many bills as possible. And the content of the bills doesn’t matter to him.
Liberals like Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) love this approach. “Sen. McConnell wants to see the Senate work,” Schumer said. “But the good news for [Democrats] is, to make it work, he has to do basically our agenda.”
Sadly, he’s right.
Senator McConnell made 2015 a great year for Democrats. He helped them raise the debt limit, pass trillions in new spending with no restrictions on the bureaucracy, and extend corporate welfare programs like the Export-Import Bank. It’s why Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) called it a “successful year.”
